Question 1

What type of OLED panel does the Samsung S90H use and what makes it special?

Accepted Answer

The Samsung S90H uses a WOLED (White OLED) panel, a self-illuminating display technology where every individual pixel produces its own light and can switch off completely to achieve a true, absolute black. Unlike LED-backlit TVs, there is no backlight at all, every pixel is independently controlled, which means the contrast between a lit star and the black space surrounding it isn’t approximated by dimming zones. It’s mathematically perfect. The S90H supports OLED HDR+ on the 55” model and OLED HDR on the 42” [18], and all sizes include Samsung’s Glare Free technology, which reduces reflections to keep the picture clear in bright rooms. Combined with the NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor, the S90H represents Samsung’s 2026 OLED mid-tier, above their LED Neo QLED range, but below the QD-OLED S95H.

Question 2

How does the 42” S90H compare to the 55” for different rooms and use cases?

Accepted Answer

The 42” S90H is a compelling choice for a bedroom, home office or small living room where screen size needs to be measured. At just over a metre wide, it’s comfortable to watch from 1.5 to 2 metres and brings full OLED picture quality, including perfect blacks and Ultra Viewing Angle, to spaces where a 55” would feel too dominant. The 55” is the more popular choice for a main living room, rewarding viewers with greater cinematic immersion especially for films and sport, from a comfortable viewing distance of 2 to 2.5 metres. Importantly, both sizes carry identical core technology, the same NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor, Glare Free display, OLED HDR, Motion Xcelerator 144Hz and 4K AI Upscaling Pro [18]. Neither is a compromised version of the other; the choice is purely about room and viewing distance.

Question 3

Is OLED good for watching sport and fast-action content?

Accepted Answer

OLED is outstanding for sport. Because each pixel responds instantaneously, there is no backlight to ramp up or dim, motion clarity is exceptional, with virtually no haloing, smearing or blooming around fast-moving subjects. The S90H supports Motion Xcelerator 144Hz with a VRR range up to 165Hz, ensuring very smooth motion rendering for live sport. AI Motion Enhancer Pro on the S90H further reduces blur during fast-moving scenes. One area to bear in mind: OLED panels generally have lower peak brightness than the best Mini LED TVs, so in a very bright room with direct sunlight hitting the screen, a Neo QLED might maintain better visibility. In a moderately lit or darkened room, however, OLED’s perfect blacks and contrast make sport look strikingly real.

Question 4

What is OLED HDR+ on the Samsung S90H 55” and how does it differ from standard OLED HDR?

Accepted Answer

OLED HDR+ is Samsung’s enhanced HDR processing tier for OLED panels, available on the 55” S90H. Compared to standard OLED HDR (which is on the 42” model), OLED HDR+ delivers higher peak brightness alongside Auto HDR Remastering, a feature that dynamically enhances the brightness and contrast of non-HDR content to make it look closer to native HDR quality. Both sizes support HDR10+ in Adaptive and Gaming modes, but the 55” offers a noticeably more impactful HDR presentation for viewers who regularly watch HDR-mastered films or premium streaming content. For viewers whose primary use is streaming standard HD content in a bedroom, the 42” with standard OLED HDR is more than capable.

Question 5

Does the Samsung S90H suffer from burn-in and is it safe for everyday use?

Accepted Answer

Burn-in is a topic that comes up with all OLED TVs and is worth understanding clearly. Burn-in occurs when a static image is left on-screen for extended periods repeatedly, for example, a news ticker or a video game HUD left on for many hours daily over years. For typical everyday viewing and watching varied TV programmes, films, sport and streaming content, burn-in is not a practical concern for the vast majority of users. Samsung’s Tizen platform includes automatic screen protection measures including pixel shift and screen saver activation. If you plan to use the S90H primarily as a TV for normal watching, you can buy with confidence. Those who intend to use it as a PC monitor or gaming display for many hours daily with static on-screen elements may want to be more cautious.

Question 6

Is the Samsung S90H 42” a good gaming TV?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the 42” S90H is one of the most recommended gaming OLED TVs available. Its 165Hz VRR support across all 4 HDMI inputs means it can handle 4K gameplay at very high frame rates from a PS5 or Xbox Series X, or higher frame rates at 1080p/1440p. OLED’s pixel-level response time is near-instantaneous, which helps with competitive gaming where reaction times matter. Auto Game Mode (ALLM) automatically applies the lowest latency game preset, and the compact 42” format makes it ideal for a desk setup or a dedicated gaming room without the screen being too large for close-range play. The Glare Free coating also helps reduce reflections from desk lighting during gaming sessions.

Question 7

What AI features does the NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor bring to the Samsung S90H?

Accepted Answer

The NQ4 AI Gen3 is Samsung’s most advanced 4K AI processor and drives several key upgrades on the S90H compared to lower-tier Samsung TVs. 4K AI Upscaling Pro uses 128 neural networks to intelligently upscale lower-resolution content to near-4K quality, recovering detail that simpler upscalers miss. Colour Booster Pro analyses each scene and amplifies colours to match their intended vibrancy. AI Motion Enhancer Pro reduces blur and judder in sports and action scenes. Auto HDR Remastering dynamically improves the brightness and contrast of non-HDR content frame by frame. Vision AI Companion (powered by Bixby, Perplexity and Copilot) brings intelligent content search and recommendations to the home screen.

Question 8

How does the S90H’s Glare Free display improve everyday viewing?

Accepted Answer

The Glare Free display on the S90H uses Samsung’s anti-reflection coating to scatter and reduce direct reflections from windows, ceiling lights and lamps. This is particularly valuable on an OLED TV, which has a naturally glossy panel, without the coating, a bright room can generate strong mirror-like reflections that wash out the picture. With Glare Free, you can enjoy the S90H’s exceptional contrast and colour even in a reasonably well-lit room. The OLED’s Ultra Viewing Angle technology ensures consistent colour and contrast from wide off-axis seating positions, ideal for living rooms where not everyone sits directly in front of the screen.

Question 9

What is the difference between the Samsung S90H and the higher-end S95H OLED?

Accepted Answer

The S90H uses a WOLED panel with OLED HDR+ and the NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor. The S95H uses Samsung’s QD-OLED technology, a Quantum Dot layer is added on top of the OLED panel to dramatically expand the colour gamut (achieving near BT.2020 coverage) and boost peak brightness beyond what WOLED can achieve. The S95H also carries Motion Xcelerator 165Hz (versus 144Hz on the S90H) and OLED HDR Pro. In practical terms: the S90H delivers outstanding OLED picture quality for the price, particularly excelling at contrast and black level. The S95H is the choice for those who prioritise the absolute best in colour vibrancy combined with OLED’s perfect blacks. For most viewing environments, the S90H’s performance is genuinely impressive.

Question 10

What connectivity does the Samsung S90H have and does it support the latest consoles?

Accepted Answer

The S90H includes 4 HDMI inputs, each capable of handling 4K at up to 144Hz, along with 3 USB ports, WiFi 5, Bluetooth and a wired Ethernet connection. All 4 HDMI ports support eARC on one port for soundbar connection, and the TV is compatible with 4K 120Hz output from PS5 and Xbox Series X at full bandwidth. One UI Tizen smart features provide access to all leading streaming platforms, Samsung TV Plus free channels and Samsung Gaming Hub for cloud gaming. The S90H also works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby voice assistants.
