Question 1

What display technology makes the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 Sony’s brightest 4K TV?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 uses Mini LED QLED panel technology, combining thousands of precisely controlled Mini LEDs with Quantum LED colour enhancement. This delivers Sony’s highest peak brightness in a 4K TV alongside outstanding contrast, made possible by XR Contrast Booster 30 and XR Backlight Master Drive. The result is spectacular highlights, deep blacks and XR Triluminos Pro colours that reproduce the real world with extraordinary accuracy.

Question 2

How does the XR Processor in the Bravia 9 XR90 work?

Accepted Answer

The XR Processor analyses every element of the picture using AI-powered cross-analysis, detecting objects, textures and depth simultaneously, then applying precision optimisations to contrast, colour and motion. Unlike standard image processors that treat the frame as a whole, the XR Processor understands each element and enhances it to match how humans perceive real-world scenes. This means even older or lower-quality content is upscaled close to 4K quality.

Question 3

Which HDR formats does the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 support?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 supports HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced. Dolby Vision adjusts contrast and colour dynamically on a scene-by-scene basis, and the Bravia 9’s high peak brightness means Dolby Vision content looks especially vivid. IMAX Enhanced content displays in the director-approved expanded aspect ratio, making films and documentaries feel closer to a cinema experience at home.

Question 4

What size options are available for the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 at EE?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 is available at EE in 65" and 75" screen sizes. The 65" is ideal for living rooms at a viewing distance of around 2.5 to 3.5 metres from the sofa, while the 75" version transforms larger rooms into a genuine home cinema. If you regularly watch sport or blockbusters with friends and family, the 75" size delivers an engrossing, big-screen experience that smaller models simply can’t match.

Question 5

What makes the audio on the Bravia 9 XR90 stand out?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 features Acoustic Multi-Audio+ with a Beam Tweeter, a world-first for TV audio. The Beam Tweeter at the top of the screen creates overhead surround sound, while Frame Tweeters at the sides widen the soundstage. Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology generates virtual speakers around you, and Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are fully supported for immersive 3D audio. The total audio system delivers a powerful 2.2.2-channel experience that rivals many dedicated soundbars.

Question 6

Is the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 a good choice for gaming?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 is an excellent gaming TV. All 4 HDMI ports support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, giving you 4K gaming at up to 120fps, VRR to eliminate frame tearing, ALLM for automatic low-latency switching and SBTM for optimised HDR in games. PlayStation 5 owners can unlock additional exclusive features including Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, which automatically applies the best picture settings for each game.

Question 7

Does the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 support Google TV and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Bravia 9 XR90 runs Google TV, Sony’s smart TV platform. Google TV presents a personalised home screen that brings together content from your subscriptions, suggests new titles based on your viewing habits and lets you search across Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, YouTube and thousands more apps using a single voice command. Both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are supported.

Question 8

How does the Bravia 9 XR90 compare to the Bravia 5 XR55 in picture quality?

Accepted Answer

The Bravia 9 XR90 sits above the Bravia 5 XR55 in Sony’s range and delivers a noticeably brighter, more detailed picture. The XR90 uses XR Contrast Booster 30 versus the XR55’s XR Contrast Booster 10, meaning significantly higher peak brightness for more impact in rooms with ambient light. The XR90’s Mini LED QLED panel also renders more distinct local dimming zones. If you want Sony’s best 4K Mini LED picture, the Bravia 9 XR90 is the clear choice.

Question 9

Can you connect external speakers or a soundbar to the Sony Bravia 9 XR90?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Bravia 9 XR90 supports eARC over HDMI, so you can connect any compatible soundbar and pass full Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio with a single cable. An optical digital audio output is also included for standard soundbar connections. Compatible Sony BRAVIA home theatre systems can be connected using Acoustic Center Sync, which uses the TV as a centre channel speaker to create a wider, more cohesive surround sound stage.

Question 10

How does the Sony Bravia 9 XR90 handle non-4K content?

Accepted Answer

The XR Processor in the Bravia 9 XR90 includes XR 4K upscaling, which analyses and upscales HD and Full HD content close to native 4K quality. Whether you’re watching older box sets, Freeview HD broadcasts or Blu-ray discs, the processor restores and enhances texture, detail and colour accuracy so content looks significantly better than it would on a TV without intelligent upscaling. XR Clear Image sharpening further refines edges and fine detail throughout.
