FAQs

Both smartphones share a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a 50MP triple-camera system, and the same Exynos 1330 processor. The key upgrade on the Galaxy A17 5G is the addition of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on the main camera — making videos noticeably steadier and low-light photos up to 2.5x brighter. The A17 also introduces a dedicated Gemini hardware key for instant AI assistance. If you take a lot of photos and videos, the A17’s OIS is a meaningful improvement over the A16.

The Galaxy A17 5G features a 50MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro lens for close-up shots. The OIS keeps your videos smooth and reduces blur caused by hand movement, while the large 50MP main sensor captures fine detail in every scene. A 13MP front camera takes care of clear selfies and video calls.

No. The Samsung Galaxy A16 does not include Optical Image Stabilisation. It uses the same 50MP main camera and 5MP ultra-wide combination, but without OIS your videos may show more shake, particularly when moving. If steadier video and better low-light photography matter to you, the Galaxy A17 5G is the better choice.

The Galaxy A17 5G is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 25W Super Fast Charging. In testing, it delivered up to 18 hours of video playback on a single charge. The Galaxy A16 has the same 5,000mAh capacity and 25W charging, so both should comfortably last through a full day of use.

Yes. Both the Galaxy A17 5G and Galaxy A16 support 5G connectivity, so you can take advantage of faster download speeds and lower latency when you’re in a 5G coverage area. With EE’s growing 5G network, both phones are ready to make the most of super-fast mobile speeds wherever you go.

Both the Galaxy A17 5G and Galaxy A16 are eligible for up to 6 major Android OS upgrades, giving you long-term software support well beyond most budget smartphones. This means your phone will keep getting the latest Android features and security updates for years to come, protecting your data and keeping your experience fresh.

Yes. One of the Galaxy A17 5G’s standout features is a dedicated Gemini hardware key on the side of the device. Press it to instantly access Google’s Gemini AI assistant for smart help with tasks, creative prompts and more without needing to navigate through settings or unlock the phone first.

Both phones are available with 128GB of internal storage, and both support expandable storage via a microSDXC card up to 2TB on the A17 5G. This gives you plenty of room to grow your photo library, download apps, and store offline media without worrying about running out of space.

Yes. Both the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G and Galaxy A16 are available SIM-free through EE, meaning you can pair one with any EE SIM-only deal that suits your data needs. EE also offers financing options so you can spread the cost, check ee.co.uk for current pricing and availability.

Both are excellent mid-range smartphones that punch above their price. If you’re a keen photographer or videographer, the Galaxy A17 5G offers noticeably better camera performance thanks to OIS and the Gemini AI key, making it the smarter choice for those who want the most from their camera. If you’re happy without those features and want to save some money, the Galaxy A16 delivers a very similar everyday experience at a lower cost.
